Ramana Gardens Orphanage, Rishikesh

Founded 18 years ago by an amazing American woman, named Prabhavati Dwabha.   She is totally dedicated to the children, currently about 70 live here, and many others come to school where they get their uniforms provided for.  IMG_2282 Dr Prahbavati is currently trying to build accommodation for some of the victims from last year’s flood that took 70,000 lives.  The orphaned children are still up in the mountains where it is getting very cold.  We did seva here, trying to move rocks with our hands, where the structure will be built.  We had only a couple of pairs of gloves and a few spades as equipment.  It was hard work and daunting to know that so much more work must be done.  In addition to the orphanage and school, there is a  restaurant which serves wonderful organic food, prepared and served by the teenage children.  They also make amazing chocolates and baked treats that they sell.  This is a beautiful place, full of hope and love.  Later the musicians in our group put on a kirtan concert that locals had been invited to attend, and with our visit and kirtan we raised almost $1000.00 that night.  It was a very emotional experience being here.  If you would like to donate or learn more about this amazing and very worthwhile cause, please visit  www.friendsramanasgarden.org/
